Briarnose strode easily through the water, climbing onto a rock positioned in the center of the river to fish. She stared into the water intently before hooking a fish and throwing it into the air, catching it in her jaws with a loud crunch that ended it's life. She set it down carefully beside her and claimed two more fish before checking on Eveningwaltz's hunting progress.
-
"Fishing is still a skill we must improve, RiverClan cat or not," Briarnose replied with a mrrow of amusement.
-
"Think that's enough? I don't think I can carry anymore," Briarnose said as she quickly caught another fish.
-
Briarnose followed her friend, her jaws full of fresh-kill. The scent of the fish wafted up to her nose, and her mouth watered slightly as the feeling of hunger hit her. When they reached the camp, she deposited the fish on the fresh-kill pile.
-
"I'm sure we won't be needed for a while. We could just take a walk through the territory, I guess." Briarnose mewed.
-
Briarnose nodded and stuck close to her friend as they began the long walk around the territory.
-
Briarnose let out a mrrow of amusement. "Yes, I love greenleaf. It is quite wonderful," she murmured in agreement.
-
Briarnose found her friend's mood infectious and she pawed at Eveningwaltz, jumping away before she could swat back.
-
Briarnose rolled out of the way, batting at her friend as she did with her claws sheathed. She retaliated by pouncing back at her friend, but lost her balance and fell heavily to her side when she heard a pair of growls coming from her right. She scrambled up and turned to face two she-cats, one with jet-black fur and the other with ginger fur and a white face resembling a mask. The black-furred cat spoke in a hiss. "Look at that, two warriors acting like mouse-brain kits. Don't you have enough sense to stay on your side of the border?" She flicked her tail at the ground where Briarnose and Eveningwaltz lay, the smell of DarkClan border markers very strong.
-
"Warriors should not behave like kits," The ginger cat mewed. "There was a time when we were kits, but that's gone now, and it should not be continued past apprentice age." Briarnose's fur ruffled and she narrowed her eyes at the two cats. "It's none of your business, how we act. Besides, shouldn't you be more worried that we crossed the border than that we're having fun?" She flicked her tail in annoyance and turned, bounding back into RiverClan territory.
-
Briarnose purred in amusement. "You're right. Maybe we should head back, though. It's almost sundown." She glanced up at the darkening sky. "And the Gathering is tonight! Race you to camp!" She took off, her tail streaming behind her in the breeze.
-
Briarnose continued running, only slowing as she reached the camp. She skidded to a halt, nearly bumping into the group of cats going to the Gathering.
-
Briarnose purred. "The whole Clan should be happy for him. It's an exciting event, one's first Gathering. Remember ours? Hollycloud told us off for trying to climb the leaders rocks at Fourtrees!" She meowed.
-
"Me either," she murmured as the group of cats going to the Gathering left. She trailed behind, purring at Barleypaw as he jumped around his mentor. Another apprentice, Gracepaw, walked alongside her mentor sullenly.
-
Gracepaw glanced up at him. "Y-yeah," She stammered. Her mentor chuckled in amusement and went off to talk to some other cats, leaving the two apprentices alone.
-
"She's just scared," An apprentice said as he passed them. Two of his friends sneered at Gracepaw. "Scaredy-cat! Scaredy-cat!" The called to her. She dropped her gaze to the ground and her tail drooped.
-
She looked up at Barleypaw and nodded slowly. "Thanks, Barleypaw," She mewed. She flicked her tail in excitement as they reached Fourtrees. She bounded ahead and immediately began to explore the clearing before the Gathering began.
-
She nodded, lifting her head to look around at the arriving cats. "I've always wanted to meet other Clan cats!" She meowed with excitement. She tried to tell the cats of each Clan apart, which was awfully difficult. The only differences she could tell were the lithe WindClan cats and the bulky ThunderClan cats. She also noticed, as she looked harder, the darker pelts of ShadowClan cats. The rest of the Clan cats here were a mystery to her, and she was called away from her search by her mentor. "I'll see you after the Gathering!" She meowed to Barleypaw before bounding off to settle beside her mentor.
Briarnose followed her friend and settled beside her with a greeting to the others. She took part in the chatting, though her tail began to flick with irritation as she saw the pair of DarkClan cats they met on the border earlier pass by, neither of them glancing in their direction.
-
Briarnose grunted, but turned her gaze from the DarkClan cats back to her friends.
